Join Us in Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we step into October, we are reminded of the incredible contributions that individuals with disabilities make to our workforce and communities. National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is a time to celebrate these achievements and reaffirm our commitment to creating inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive.

This year’s theme, “Access to Good Jobs for All,” resonates deeply with our mission at the California Policy Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (CPCIDD). We believe that employment is not just a means to an end but a pathway to independence, dignity, and self-fulfillment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Why Celebrate NDEAM?

NDEAM is more than just a month-long observance; it is a call to action. Despite the progress we’ve made, 85% of people with IDD remain unemployed. This statistic is a stark reminder of the barriers that still exist and the work that lies ahead. By celebrating NDEAM, we shine a light on the value that people with disabilities bring to the workforce and encourage employers to embrace inclusive hiring practices.

How Can You Get Involved?

  1. Share Success Stories: Help us spread the word about the positive impact of employing individuals with disabilities. Share your stories on social media using #NDEAM and tag us @CPCIDD.
  2. Review and Improve Policies: Take this opportunity to review your organization’s policies to ensure they promote an inclusive workplace culture. Small changes can make a big difference.
  3. Participate in Disability Mentoring Day: Join us on the third Wednesday of October for Disability Mentoring Day. This event connects job seekers with disabilities to mentors in their desired fields, providing valuable insights and networking opportunities.
  4. Support Our Work: Consider donating to CPCIDD to help us continue our advocacy and support for individuals with IDD. Your contributions make a significant impact on our ability to drive change and create opportunities.

Together, we can make a difference. Let’s celebrate NDEAM by uplifting the voices of individuals with disabilities and working towards a future where everyone has access to good jobs and the chance to succeed.

Warm regards,

Teresa Anderson
